    SWIMMING AT DAWN

Come with me and swim at dawn. Feel, see and share with me what it is like to greet the morning and the sea each day. Become part of this soulful journey of exploration and renewal in this magical world that is the ocean and its environs. The sea awaits you.

In this video, I prepare for my immersion. My feet reach the water and my shadow merges with the aqua depths. I can feel the cool breeze on my skin and the salty water chilling my legs as the small waves break. I turn towards the sun to greet the new day as the golden light envelops me.

Octopus Encounters
Marked by missed encounters, stormy weather and frothing seas, Part 4 of my octopus series covers encounters 6-10 from 13-20 June 2021. Deeper connection simply produced more questions and curiosity within me. The octopus began to occupy my psyche in new ways and I struggled with the concern that our developing bond might endanger her. Contact with Mof was pushing me to explore more deep...

Wild Swimmer Stories
Be the change you wish to see! Kathleen Wotton's (IG: @ocean_calls_swimming) remarkable story epitomizes the power we have to transform ourselves and rewrite our stories. Read her story and you will see, no barrier is too great to overcome. Kathleen is a shining example that change is possible! Never give up! What a blessing when Kathleen joined the IG LIVE conversation that artist Helen (@artallotment) and...

Swimming at Dawn
Poetry
Autumn washes over me and I feel the rhythms within shifting and slowing just as I witness the earth and nature around me settling in for winter. Taking a hike with the boys in the woods I felt much energy in the death and decay surrounding us knowing it simply gives way to new life. My own caterpillar heart is filled with summer sustenance preparing for what is yet to be. With my eye always on a lookout for a wild swimming spot, this lovely...

Wild Swimmer Stories
Tuesday (21 Sept 2021) will live in my body and mind in a powerfully visceral way for a long time. Before waking I had a brief vague dream, right on the edge of consciousness. Bold capital letters, first in red then in black, flashed across my forehead: FEAR, FEAR. I awoke, disturbed. A premonition? Assessing, I told myself, There's nothing to fear in this moment. I looked out the window and the brilliant, white-gold harvest moon (the last f...

Dawn Swimmer is me but she is also any woman. I didn't want this blog to be an expose of myself and consequently I've chosen to make it anonymous.

I would like anyone to identify with the call of the sea, the desire to challenge oneself, to connect with nature's beauty and the ever-changing moods of the day and ocean, as well as the process of growth and development that my daily journey to the sea has unexpectedly provided for me.

The person behind this is important but also unimportant.

As the journey and blog evolved, I decided I would like to create a space to hear the voices, reflections and experiences of other wild swimmers.

Here you will find stories, reflections and contributions from swimmers who value the inner aspects of being in and around the water, people for whom immersing themselves in the oceans, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls of the world provide countless benefits to heart, soul, body, mind and spirit. Explore the water in its immensity and grandeur through their eyes.
