    SWIMMING AT DAWN

Come with me and swim at dawn. Feel, see and share with me what it is like to greet the morning and the sea each day. Become part of this soulful journey of exploration and renewal in this magical world that is the ocean and its environs. The sea awaits you.

In this video, I prepare for my immersion. My feet reach the water and my shadow merges with the aqua depths. I can feel the cool breeze on my skin and the salty water chilling my legs as the small waves break. I turn towards the sun to greet the new day as the golden light envelops me.

Octopus Encounters
In the sixth and final chapter of My Octopus Friend series, I tell the story of our final encounters. One day I went to visit her den and she had simply vanished. I always knew she would leave eventually, it's not uncommon to change dens every few weeks or so, but, as with all relationships, it's hard to say goodbye especially when there's no closure. In the end, I only have gratitude for an extraordinary 14 encounters with a magnificent creature...

About
Imagine! Immersing in the ocean at dawn with the rising sun, exploring the ever-changing nature of a river, creating rings of movement on the face of a placid lagoon with just a gentle touch, putting your head under a waterfall, walking out to an island only accessible at low tide, or feeling refreshing, salty ocean water caress your skin as gentle waves crash around you. Does the water call to you? Would you like to feel these thi...

Octopus Encounters
In Part 5 of this six part series, Mof (My Octopus Friend) and I have an extraordinary eleventh encounter on the morning of the summer solstice 2021. It speaks to me about the power of trust, friendship and how vital it is for humans to connect with and to see themselves as part of, and not separate from, the natural world. Mof's example of courageous trust encourages all of us to come out of our metap...

Sea Reflections
Poetry
I began the Driftwood Series in Menorca when hiking around the perimeter of this beautiful Spanish Mediterranean island with my partner from 30 Sept to 9 Oct 2021 on the Camí de Cavalls hiking trail. I swam every day, often multiple times, in the enchanting aqua waters.  Huge quantities of impressive driftwood on Menorca's north side drew us in and kept us company. A post-swim chair, a resting spot to watch the sea, ...

Dawn Swimmer is me but she is also any woman. I didn't want this blog to be an expose of myself and consequently I've chosen to make it anonymous.

I would like anyone to identify with the call of the sea, the desire to challenge oneself, to connect with nature's beauty and the ever-changing moods of the day and ocean, as well as the process of growth and development that my daily journey to the sea has unexpectedly provided for me.

The person behind this is important but also unimportant.

As the journey and blog evolved, I decided I would like to create a space to hear the voices, reflections and experiences of other wild swimmers.

Here you will find stories, reflections and contributions from swimmers who value the inner aspects of being in and around the water, people for whom immersing themselves in the oceans, rivers, lakes, and waterfalls of the world provide countless benefits to heart, soul, body, mind and spirit. Explore the water in its immensity and grandeur through their eyes.
